Candle Care
To experience the cleanest and longest burn, follow these tips:
Trim your wicks before each lighting to 1/4". Use a wick trimmer, manicure scissors or any other handheld small trimmer.
Keep surface free of debris including wick trimmings.
Allow wax to melt across entire surface during each burn, especially the first. This typically takes 3-4 hours.
Do not burn more than 4 hours at a time without extinguishing flame, trimming wicks, and relighting.
Never move a burning candle, and place out of drafts and direct sunlight.
Keep candles out of the reach of small children and pets.
Never burn a candle on or near anything that can catch fire.
Troubleshooting:
Tunnelling: occasionally, a candle will have air pockets which can cause the wax to burn down vs across the surface. Or, you may have wax build up on the sides if you are not burning your candle long enough each time. To remedy this, you can gently scrape and discard excess wax (and even fill in low spots where there was an air pocket), create a new smooth surface, trim the wick and relight. Your candle should burn properly for the remainder of the wax.
Tall flames: if you notice the flames on your wicks are excessive large or tall, simply extinguish them, trim them, let the candle cool for a bit and relight. This is typically caused by carbon buildup on the wick tips, which is why we recommend trimming wicks before every burn.
Drowning wicks: every so often, a candle struggles to burn and the wicks can “drown” in the melted surface. They might even get buried in the melted wax. Typically this is due to improper wick sizing or trimming the wicks too short (1/4” is ideal), or an air pocket / sinkhole located next to the wick, below the surface. If this happens, you can gently scrape off 1/4” of wax from the surface to expose the fresh wick and relight.
